We offer workshops and demonstrations for groups of any age or size. Curriculum is drawn from a comprehensive list of theatre games and improvisation exercises, based on the size and median age of the participants.
Demonstrations
vs. Workshops
Improv
workshops tend to work best in smaller groups because we prefer to allow everyone the opportunity to be directly involved in the games and exercises; whereas, demonstrations of various theatre arts (including improvisation) work much better for large assemblies.
Whichever
you decide, we
will work with you to fulfill
your specific
needs. For
instance, if you want
an improv workshop for
a large group, we may be
able to divide up the
sessions throughout the
day or week. Our
rates for workshops and
demonstrations are very
reasonable, and are TBD
(to be decided) based
on group size and time
commitment. Contact
us and see how easy
it
is to come to a reasonable
rate agreement.
Children’s
Workshops
HCFB
offers a variety of engaging,
highly interactive workshops
for children. Whatever
the occasion, we are
always glad to work with
you to customize any
topic or session to suit
your most exact needs.
Imagination and Improvisation (Grades K-6)
Kids
are natural improvisers,
and we here at HCFB know
that kids love to pretend
and imagine and create. Through
specially designed games
and masterful instruction,
this fun hands-on workshop
teaches children that
ideas can come from anywhere
and are all worthy of
exploration. Active
listening, cooperation
and self-confidence
are encouraged and developed
as a result of this
workshop.
You Can Write a Play in a Day! (Grades 3-6)
Let
HCFB show you how to
create
a play worthy of performance
in only one day! Utilizing the basic tools of improvisation, it is both fun and easy to create fully formed characters and place them into any situation imaginable. HCFB will focus on dramatic structure and the basic elements of a play. Also, and most importantly, the need for cooperation and conflict resolution is explored and addressed and the result is always positive. While participants will have the opportunity to perform a version of their play at the end of the day, instructors are encouraged to continue to develop and nurture this project well after HCFB has left the building.
This
workshop is divided into
a morning and afternoon
session.
Morning
Session (Part 1)
The
children arrive and,
after some stretching
and movement
exercises
to limber
up both
body and
mind, they
will work
on character
development
through
carefully
led improvisation
exercises. Some
situations
and plot
points
are also
developed
during
this time
as a natural
result
of the
improvisation
exercises.
Afternoon
Session (Part
2)
After a break, the kids will be off and running as the characters they created in Part 1 are worked into a basic plot structure. At this time, we will allow time for a performance based on all of the characters and ideas exchanged throughout both sessions.
Voice,
Movement & Character (All Ages)
Can
a change in voice spark
an idea for a character? Can a variation in the way you move make you someone else entirely? HCFB will help you explore your every option in this fun and intensive study of how voice and movement shape the way you interact with and are viewed by others. The
techniques explored in
this workshop are invaluable
both onstage and off.
